Scotland head coach Andy Robinson has told his experienced players he wants leaders all over the park when they take on the world's best teams later this month.
Robinson is without his most recent two captains for the EMC autumn Test series opener against New Zealand a week on Saturday with scrum-half Chris Cusiter and lock Al Kellock ruled out through injury.
"It's not just about the captain being there and everyone looking to the captain," said Robinson.
"Leadership is spread and everyone within the leadership group has responsibilities.
"The captain should be able to go out and play his game and make important decisions."
Robinson is hopeful all 33 players who reported for a three-day training camp in St Andrews this week will be able to return fit for action on Monday as the preparations for games against New Zealand, world champions South Africa and Samoa are further stepped up.
Cardiff stand-off Dan Parks was a doubt with a foot injury but the former Glasgow player trained Wednesday and is nearing full fitness.
As well as Kellock and Cusiter, Johnnie Beattie, Nick De Luca, Al Strokosch and Simon Danielli are absent through injury.
