Russia gain advantage in play-off

Russia seized a slender first-leg advantage against Uruguay in their play-off for a place at the 2015 World Cup.

In Krasnoyarsk, Siberia, the heartland of Russian rugby union, the home side earned a 22-21 victory, with the only try of the encounter coming from the home side's Grigory Tsnobiladze in the 37th minute.

Yury Kushnarev booted the rest of Russia's points, with five penalties and a conversion, while Felipe Berchesi kicked seven goals for the Uruguayans.

The teams clash again in a deciding match in Montevideo on October 11, as they vie for a Pool A slot alongside Australia, Wales, Fiji and hosts England.
