Sale handed Biarritz opener

Former champions Sale will open their 2013/14 Amlin Challenge Cup campaign against Biarritz at Salford City Stadium in October.

The Pool One contest will take place on Thursday, October 10 after tournament organiser ERC announced the fixtures for the opening round of games.

The other game in the group will take place on Saturday, October 12 when Sale's Aviva Premiership rivals Worcester travel to face European newcomers Oyonnax.

Sale and London Irish are the only two English clubs to enjoy home advantage in the opening round of fixtures; the Exiles host Cavalieri Prato in Pool Five, which also contains Stade Francais and Olympus Rugby Madrid.

Bath, Wasps and Newcastle Falcons all kick off on the road. The West Country club face Bordeaux-Begles in Pool Two, while Wasps head to Italy to meet Viadana in Pool Four.

The Falcons, back in European competition after securing promotion to the Premiership at the first attempt, will make the journey to Romania for their Pool Three clash with Bucharest Wolves.

Newport Gwent Dragons, the tournament's sole Welsh representatives, entertain Rugby Mogliano in Pool Two.
