Alex McDonald proves to be match-winner for Foyle College

Foyle College 37 - Larne GS 10

Alex McDonald made his presence felt when he accumulated 27 points in Foyle College's victory over Larne.

Foyle were more clinical than their opponents although they made a number of wrong options in the first period and had to be content with a 17-3 half-time lead.

Out-half McDonald, who helped his team win the Bowl last season, converted his own try after 10 minutes and then did the same when his brother Callum charged over in the corner after a blindside move.

Larne came back with a Calum McKay penalty which was cancelled out by McDonald.

The visitors had the first score of the second half when they stole line-out ball and a driving maul led to Jordan Bell rumbling over for McKay to convert.

But McDonald, winger Jack McNeill and McDonald again went over for second-half tries for Foyle, the man of the match also converting his final try and kicking another penalty.

Johnny Lowe, the Larne coach felt his side were in the contest until the final 20 minutes.

"It was 17-10 at that stage but they adapted better to the conditions and we found it difficult to deal with their out-half and full-back. Foyle warranted their win but we made them work for it" he said.
