Banbridge Academy show class in ruthless second half

Banbridge Academy 30 Larne GS 7: A closely contested first half, but Banbridge pulled away for a four-try victory and now face Coleraine Inst on Saturday week.

Home winger David Houston ran in for the first after 18 minutes, which was followed by a Daniel McElderry penalty.

Larne came back when a move started from their own territory for full- back Jonathan Glasgow to sprint in for Callum McKay to add the points.

The home team made it 13-7 at the half way stage when scrum-half Jay Pinion nipped over.

The second half belonged to Banbridge, with McElderry firstly adding a second penalty.

Two minutes later, winger Ethan Harbinson gained possession and evaded three tacklers to go in at the corner. In the 50th minute, they made sure when Nathan McKinley scored for McElderry to add the points.

Home coach Brian Leslie thought his team played good rugby: "We did leave a lot of good ball behind but overall it was a satisfactory effort on a big day."

Larne coach Jonny Lowe said: "They were a better team and their defence solid. They dominated the possession and prevented us from winning quick balls."
