Hunter claims four scores in Dalriada romp
Larne GS 3 Dalriada School 48
Dalriada centre Thomas Hunter certainly made his immense presence felt when he ran in four tries in his team's eight-try 48-3 success against Larne Grammar.
The big strong running centre scored two in each half, but it was left winger Ewan Rodgers who finished off a piercing move for Dalriada's first try of the morning.
Second row forward Paddy Elliot added the conversion before Hunter took off from 38 metres out and broke through numerous Larne tackles for his and his side's second.
Within a few minutes he did the same again and Dalriada were 19-3 in front.
Earlier, Larne had a Johnny Farquhar penalty.
Nine minutes into the second half, Irish triple jumper Hunter made the line for his third but was rather fortunate to do so as he should have been passed earlier.
From the drop out he scored again and Larne had no answer. Dalriada coach Rab Gregg emptied his bench and a break by full-back Luke Pollock, who had a great game, resulted in out-half Jacob Fleck scoring.
A fumbled ball and Rodgers added his second and he scored again right at the end following a Fleck chip over the defence. Paddy Elliott had a total of four conversions.
Despite the victory, coach Gregg was not happy with Dalriada's first-half effort. He said: "We appeared to be nervous and butchered at least four scoring chances.
"We cannot afford to do that against Limavady, who have already narrowly defeated us, in the next round."
