Ulster Schools’ U18s and U19s square up this afternoon at the University of Ulster, Jordanstown (2.30).
The U18s will then play their Lancashire Schools’ counterparts on Monday at Campbell College (2.30), with the victors lifting the long-contested Atkin’s Trophy of which Ulster are the holders.
On Friday, August 24 the Ulster Schools’ team will face Lanquedoc U18s at Queen’s University playing fields, Upper Malone (kick-off time to be confirmed).
These games are seen as providing vital preparation for the inter-pro series scheduled for September.
Ulster play Leinster Schools at Donnybrook on Wednesday, September 5 and will then face Connacht Schools at the Galway Sports Ground a week later.
Ulster’s final game is against Munster Schools in Belfast on Saturday, September 22.
Meanwhile the U19s, now under the expert guidance of Ulster Elite Player Development Officer and former Ulster and Ireland scrum-half, Kieran Campbell — ably backed by Brian McLaughlin and Allen Clarke — are working towards their inter-pro campaign, too.
Following this afternoon’s showdown against Ulster Schools at UUJ, the U19s will then play their Connacht counterparts in Athlone on Saturday before travelling to take on Northampton U19s at Franklin’s Gardens on Tuesday.
The remainder of their programme will see them take on the Munster U19 side on Saturday, September 8 at Ravenhill and Leinster U19 outfit in Dublin (venue TBC) on Saturday, September 22.
They will bring an end to their inter-pro campaign with play-off showdowns in Dublin on Saturday, September 29.
