Shiells heading to Bath

Bath have signed Newcastle prop Grant Shiells ahead of the new Aviva Premiership season.

The 24-year-old loosehead joined the Falcons in 2009 but injuries last season meant he made only two starts for the first team.

Shiells, who been capped for Scotland Under-19s, Under-20s and at A-level, will compete for a place in the Bath scrum with Paul James, Nathan Catt and Nick Auterac.

"I'm really excited to be joining Bath," Shiells told the official club website.

"They've got a great coaching team and are clearly building towards the future.

"There are some very talented players in the squad, and I'm looking forward to getting involved and developing myself as a player."

Bath forwards coach Neal Hatley added: "Grant is a talented young player who already has a good amount of Premiership experience.

"We see him fitting in well with the club and our plans for the future. He's got a lot of potential in him, and we're looking forward to seeing him push on."
