Glasgow Warriors have called a media conference for Monday where "a significant announcement" will be made amid speculation Gregor Townsend is poised to succeed Sean Lineen as head coach.
Townsend's current position as Scotland attack coach has been scrutinised and criticised and his future after the RBS 6 Nations is yet to be confirmed following the appointment of Scott Johnson as senior assistant coach to head coach Andy Robinson.
The 38-year-old former British and Irish Lion, who won 82 Scotland caps, now appears set to take over at the Warriors, with Lineen poised to be offered an alternative role within the Scottish Rugby Union.
Lineen, a Grand Slam-winner with Scotland in 1990, has been head coach at Glasgow since 2006 and this season has led the Warriors to fourth place in the RaboDirect PRO12 competition and in line for a place in the play-offs.
Glasgow Warriors and the SRU refused to comment further after announcing the media conference.
