Ulster Ravens looking to swoop on Eagles

By Michael Sadlier

Ulster Ravens are back in action tonight when they meet Connacht Eagles in a friendly clash at Deramore (kick-off 6pm).

Clearly with next week's return to PRO12 action in mind – Ulster meet Edinburgh at Ravenhill on November 22 – the Ulster management have selected a strong side for what is intended to be a decent hit-out.

This approach is all too evident with Nick Williams starting at number eight while Robbie Diack packs down in the second row with skipper Lewis Stevenson.

In the backline, Paul Marshall and Stuart Olding make up an eye-catchingly strong Ravens half-back partnership while outside them Michael Allen gets a run in the centre alongside the strong-running Chris Farrell.

The Ravens bench is also fairly useful with Callum Black, Adam Macklin and James McKinney all likely to see some action against an Eagles team including winger Fionn Carr.

Ulster assistant coach Neil Doak is in charge of the Ravens tonight and said: "It's a difficult period with the Autumn Internationals so it's good to see guys in different positions as we might need them down the line."

Ulster Ravens: R Andrew; D McIlwaine, M Allen, C Farrell, P Nelson; S Olding, P Marshall; K McCall, N Annett, R Lutton, L Stevenson (capt), R Diack, M McComish, S Doyle, N Williams;?Replacements P Jackson, C Black, A Macklin, L Dow, C Joyce, D Shanahan, J McKinney, S McCloskey.
