Ulster have said new signing Marcell Coetzee will arrive in Belfast "fitter and stronger than ever" despite confirmation that he will miss nine months following knee surgery.

The Springbok was due to join this summer but his debut will be delayed thanks to an ACL injury sustained with the Sharks.

Operations Manager Bryn Cunningham said: "I have been speaking with Marcell to express our sympathy. Marcell is taking a positive outlook and is excited about getting fitter and stronger than ever before to excel for Ulster next season and beyond."

Stuart McCloskey, Nick Williams, Louis Ludik, Alan O'Connor and Wiehahn Herbst are expected to miss Saturday's clash with Zebre.
