Ulster Senior League: Pollock on fire as Quins gain All-Ireland boost
Winger Andy Pollock scored four tries as Belfast Harlequins beat neighbours Instonians 47-12 at Shaw's Bridge.
Quins were eager to bounce back after losing to Clonakilty last week and they did it with aplomb by running in nine tries.
Coach Adam Larkin was delighted with the performance and he is hoping that it will carry over into Quins’ key All-Ireland League match against Ballymena, which could shape their promotion destiny.
“The win brings back that bit of self belief. It is always a grudge match when these two teams meet and anything can happen,” said Larkin.
“We have Banbridge next and after that we have the big match against Ballymena, which for both sides will define their season.”
Quins had Ulster duo Adam Macklin and Darren Cave in their ranks and wrapped up a bonus point before the interval.
Prop Mark McGrath got the first try on 11 minutes and centre Will Stewart doubled the advantage when he touched down after Inst prop Stephen Millar was sin binned.
Quins added another two tries before the break, from Pollock and Michael Allen. Alan Whitten then went over for Inst to cut the visitors’ half-time lead to 20-5.
Macklin and Allen added early second-half tries for Quins before replacement hooker David McGovern crossed for Inst.
As the game opened up Pollock ran in three tries in the last 22 minutes to take his personal tally to 20 points.
Malone's dip in form continued at Gibson Park as they went down 26-14 to Banbridge.
In Saturday’s other game Rainey defeated Ards 26-14 with out half Mark O'Connor kicking 11 points.
