Van der Linde blow for Irish

London Irish prop CJ van der Linde has been forced to undergo pectoral surgery that could throw his Aviva Premiership season into doubt.

The 33-year-old World Cup-winning South African has made just one appearance since his December arrival at Irish due to calf problems.

But now he has damaged a muscle in his chest, and has returned to his native South Africa to continue rehabilitation.

Van der Linde only signed a deal until the end of the campaign, as an injury-dispensation recruit after Irish lost Tonga prop Halani Aulika for the season.
