Wasps flanker George Smith cited for striking

Wasps flanker George Smith has been cited for striking an opponent in Saturday's 13-10 Aviva Premiership defeat at Gloucester.

Smith will face a Rugby Football Union disciplinary panel in London on Wednesday night after being charged with striking James Hook on the side of the head with his knee in the second half at Kingsholm.

The 35-year-old former Australia openside has been magnificent for Wasps this season, leading the team in the absence of James Haskell and Matt Mullan, and was named Premiership player of the month for February.

He has also been conducting coaching sessions on the breakdown for England, who are coached by his former Wallabies boss Eddie Jones.
