Waterman returns with England try

Danielle Waterman overcame a 14-month injury absence with a try as England's women eased past Italy 24-0 in Rovato to secure second place in the RBS 6 Nations.

Gary Street's side were left to rue their opening-round defeat to France, who claimed the Grand Slam on Friday night by edging out Ireland 19-15 in Pau.

England completed the competition with four wins and the Triple Crown, thanks to tries from Waterman, Emily Scarratt, Laura Keates and Amber Reed.

Full-back Waterman was back in action after more than a year battling knee trouble, and marked her return with a well-taken score.

Wales' 25-0 home victory over Scotland completed the final round of fixtures, to consign the Scots to the wooden spoon.

Ireland's defeats to France and England left them third in the final standings, with Italy's two wins leaving them fourth.
