Welch pens new Falcons deal

Newcastle have confirmed flanker Will Welch has signed a new two-year deal with the Aviva Premiership club.

The 20-year-old academy product made his first-team debut against the Newport Gwent Dragons in 2008 before he signed professional terms at the end of that season.

The England Under-20 cap, who went on to make 20 appearances last term, told the club website: "I've still got a lot to learn and I'm working hard at my game every day, but I love it at the club and I was always keen to commit my future here."

Coach Alan Tait added: "It's great for the club because Will has come through our academy, we've shown faith in him and now he has shown the same in us.

"We really think he's going to be an outstanding openside for the future, we want to keep him in the north-east and this is just another statement of how we're looking to build."
