Rugby World Cup: Ulster's Ruan Pienaar on the bench for South Africa for Wales quarter-final

Ulster's Ruan Pienaar will be back on the South Africa bench when they meet Wales at Twickenham in Saturday's World Cup quarter-final.

The scrum-half, who was a part of the Springboks squad that won the competition in 2007, was given a breather during the win over the USA last week with Rudy Paige getting his first cap as a substitute.

Pienaar, 31, is back among the replacements this weekend as back-up to Fourie du Preez and will win an 88th cap should he make an appearance.

Wing JP Pietersen has recovered from the knee injury that kept him out against the Eagles and he regains his place in the starting line-up. Victor Matfield is out with a hamstring issue.

South Africa: W le Roux; JP Pietersen, J Kriel, D de Allende, B Habana; H Pollard, F du Preez (capt); T Mtawarira, B du Plessis, F Malherbe, E Etzebeth, L de Jager, F Louw, S Burger , D Vermeulen.

Replacements: A Strauss, T Nyakane, J du Plessis, PS du Toit, W Alberts, R Pienaar, P Lambie, J Serfontein.
