Twitter broke into a mini frenzy when news broke that Andrew Trimble had been left out of coach Joe Schmidt's squad for the forthcoming World Cup.

Schmidt omitted the 2014 Player of the Year in his 31 man squad for this month's finals.

The Ireland coach's selection proved something of a gamble with just two scrum-halves selected.

Schmidt admitted that making the call was among the most difficult the New Zealander had made in his career.

While many rugby fans expressed their confusion on Twitter.
