Karola Bejenaru bowed out of the $10,000 tournament in Bucharest yesterday after putting up a brave display against the third seed, Christina Ene, in the last 16.

The 18-year-old Windsor star made a poor start but recovered to go toe-to-toe with the Romanian before going down 6-0 3-6 6-3 against a player ranked 424 in the world.

Bejenaru's coach Przemek Stec is delighted with her progress after she earlier earned a world ranking by winning her third main draw match on the professional tour.

"Karola has played four successive tournaments now and reached the second round twice after qualifying and it's great that she now has a ranking," said Polish-born Windsor coach Stec.

"That will make life easier for her and it means that she won't have to worry about not getting into qualifying for such tournaments in future.

"She is moving in the right direction for sure and I'd like to think she can reach around 700 in the rankings in 12 months and 400 in two years' time."
