Peter Corrie made history yesterday when he became the first local player to lift the boys singles title at the annual ITF junior world ranking tournament at Windsor.

The Hilden ace was heading for victory against England's Robert Leck when his opponent had to retire with an unfortunate hip injury when trailing 6-7, 6-1, 3-0.

It's been an unforgettable week for the 16-year-old, who defeated three seeded players en route to the final, his latest victim having been ranked seventh in the tournament and 751 places higher on the world-list.

Corrie said: "Obviously I'd have liked to have won the match in the usual way but I'm absolutely thrilled at the achievement which has always been my target since I started playing.

"But I couldn't have done it without the help of my coach, Alex Watt, who has been brilliant all week in preparing me.

"We were able to take in some of Robert's semi-final yesterday which helped Alex in formulating a game-plan."

He added: "There would be no point losing in the first or second round (in future) having won at Windsor so I want to go as far as possible and accumulate more world-ranking points."
