Emily Beatty is up for Russian challenge

Published 10/07/2013

Emily Beatty is hoping to enjoy one of the best singles wins of her young career when she competes at the under-16 European Tennis Association event in Malta tomorrow.

The Hillsborough teenager will take on the sixth seed, Anastasia Ternovskaya of Russia, in the last 16, having had a walkover in the previous round.

Following this event, Beatty will then turn her attention to back-to-back under-18 ITF events in Donnybrook and then the Belfast City event at Windsor at the end of the month.

Dad Patrick said: "It's great that the tournament is coming to Belfast, it will give the local players great experience."

Yesterday she made it through to the second round of the doubles in Malta with Russian partner Alexandra Shemarina.
