Junior Open: Will Boyd enjoys double as Russell shows grit

Will Boyd was the comeback king at the Tile Market Ulster Junior Open yesterday.

Boyd came through a gruelling clash with Joshua Whann to win their under-18 clash 5-7 6-4 7-5.

Shortly afterwards Downshire lad Boyd was back on court in the under-16s and again found himself a set down before battling back to defeat Isaac Kerr |3-6 6-3 6-4.

In another exciting under-18 duel, Steven Marshall also came from behind to defeat David Acum 2-6 6-3 6-4.

It proved to be a day of dramatic encounters with Lauren Russell showing her fighting spirit in the under-14 girls as she also dropped the opening set before winning a marathon duel with Kathryn McCloskey 3-6 |6-3 11-9.

Another fine battle saw David Weir defeat Ben McClurg in the under-14 boys 6-4 6-4.

Karl Donaldson once again cruised to victory in the under-21s, defeating James Spencer |6-1 6-0.

Rebecca Brown won her under-21 clash with Katherine Mills 6-3 6-4.
