Sam Bothwell fails tough examination
Sam Bothwell was in no mood to make excuses after bowing out of ITF Junior tournament at the first hurdle.
The Hillsborough lad lost 6-2, 6-1 to Scotland's Ewan Moore, who is a young man in form.
The Edinburgh-based player entered the Belfast tournament on the back of winning the ITF event at Donnybrook last week.
In contrast, Bothwell's appearances have been limited as he recently finished his GCSEs.
"I was beaten by the better player on the day and he looked much more match-tight than I was, unfortunately," said the 16 year-old.
"I had my chances in some games, but didn't take them and he was able to win the big points when he needed to."
There was also disappointment for Windsor player Matthew McClurg who made a first round exit after being handed a wild card entry at the 11th hour.
He went down 6-2, 6-2 to Robert Leck and, like Bothwell, will now focus on the doubles.
