Two competitors died on the opening day of the Isle of Man TT on Saturday, race organisers have confirmed.

ACU Events LTD announced in separate statements on the official Isle of Man TT website that Dwight Beare and Paul Shoesmith had both died.

Australian driver Beare was killed following an accident near Rhencullen during Sidecar Race 1.

ACU Events added that Dwight's passenger, Isle of Man native Benjamin Binns, "was airlifted to Nobles Hospital where he was described as being stable with a fractured ankle".

Later Shoesmith, 50, from Lancashire, was killed following an accident on Sulby Straight during the evening's solo practice.
