Cavan's acquaintance with the preliminary round of the Ulster senior football championship has been rather too pronounced in recent years, according to skipper Seanie Johnston.
That’s why he is delighted the Breffni side have had an extra month in which to prepare for the competition this year.
“Over the past few years we have found ourselves involved in preliminary round matches which meant that we were going into championship action shortly after the National League.
“This year, though, we have had an extra month in which to get ready for today’s game against Donegal and that should be a big help to us,” insists Johnston.
The squad have prepared diligently for today’s contest and Johnston is at pains to point out that their recent form in Division Three of the National League was not a true reflection of the side’s |capabilities.
“I think we are better than we showed ourselves to be in the league campaign,” insists Johnston.
