Hi °C | Lo °C Darren Clarke’s proud little sister Andrea has revealed how sacrificing her own early golfing ambitions helped her big brother become a superstar.
As a teenager petite blonde Andrea regularly beat the newly crowned Open champion, but money in the Clarke household was tight back then and mum Hetty and dad Godfrey simply couldn’t afford to push both.
But amid the lavish homecoming celebrations at Royal Portrush Golf Club, a delighted Andrea conceded: “I’ve no regrets.
“I never had the same confidence as Darren so it was the right thing to do and I’m very proud of what he has achieved.
“We grew up playing together in our teenage years and I beat him on a regular basis.
“I had girls’ trials while Darren was having boys’ trials."
