New season, new signings, new kit — but same old Linfield boss David Jeffrey.

The passionate and over-enthusiastic Blues chief roared in delight yesterday as his Carling Premiership champions came from behind to defeat Glenavon 2-1 at Mourneview Park on the opening day of the 2011/12 season.

Linfield’s bitter cross-city rivals Glentoran also secured a 2-1 victory — Darren Boyce scoring he winner against Crusaders at Seaview.

But neither the Blues or Glens are top of the table this morning.

That honour goes to Ballymena United who destroyed Tommy Wright’s Lisburn Distillery 4-1 at New Grosvenor.

For full Carling Premiership coverage, see this week's Sunday Life.

World must open its eyes and see Israel for what it is

Why pick on Israel when there's so much injustice in the rest of the world? The answer is to be found in the specific circumstances which gave rise to the launch of the BDS (Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions) campaign in July 2005.

PR machine is driving Sinn Fein power push

Sinn Fein's ard fheis opens in Killarney tomorrow. Like most conferences held by successful political parties, it is a well-managed set-piece. It is a PR event and it is aimed at the voters watching on TV.

Nurse, the screens! Yup, top experts have issued new warnings about kiddies watching nothing but tellies and computers, while real life flits by unnoticed outside.
