Donard's real pulling power

The Donard Hotel in Newcastle has been the spiritual home of Down Gaelic football for generations. The Maginn family has made a huge contribution behind the scenes from the time the bar was taken over in the 1930s by the late Con Maginn.

Next Sunday against Cork the family connection with Down football will be centre stage on Croke Park through his grandson.

The county's football players have returned to the seaside town to celebrate a unique unbroken five finals record.

Conor Maginn remembers the last time. He remembers being photographed with the All Ireland trophy inside the Donard.
