Graeme McDowell shot a sensational 68 to lead the chase for the US Open. Then the Portrush-born star delivered a brutally honest assessment on fellow Northern Ireland hero Rory McIlroy.
As McDowell set out last night on his third round, well placed for a final day assault on one of world golf's greatest titles, McIlroy was heading home, another disappointing major behind him.
But why hadn’t McIlroy fired this week, I asked McDowell?
His answer was brutally frank. “Rory plays gung-ho golf but major championships are a different animal."
