Higgins: I will never give up smokes and booze

Hell-rasing snooker ace Alex ‘Hurricane’ Higgins has admitted he will defy the doctors and keep on smoking and drinking — despite being in remission from throat cancer. The cash-strapped 60-year-old last week announced he was returning to the game for a Snooker Legends UK tour organised by his best pal Jimmy White. But while the two-times world champion is delighted to get back on the table in front of adoring fans again, he said he is too long in the tooth to quit booze and the fags even though it could send him to an early grave. He revealed: “These days I only smoke two cigarettes a day, it is just something that I have to deal with. “I have drank Guinness all my life and I am not going to change that now. I drink Guinness and I drink a couple of pints every day and maybe the odd rum or brandy." For the full story, see this week's Sunday Life.
