Honesty is the best policy
Optimism is something that engulfs practically every county in the weeks immediately preceding the All-Ireland Football Championship.
The notion that this could be ‘our year’ is fermented, training is intensified and a spirit of unity, which is not always prevalent within counties, tends to manifest itself.
Yet this is the time of year when one group of people become subjected to what is almost intolerable pressure — and no, I am not referring to referees.
The team managers, to my mind, form an important element within the GAA because, in what is an amateur sport, their role is unquestionably nothing less than a 24/7 vocation.
