I still get a kick out of boxing
A former champion kickboxer from Northern Ireland says the shock death of a female competitor in the USA won’t put her off the sport she loves.
Belfast mum-of-one Fran Spence — now a judge in the sport — says news of Atlanta-based fighter Adrienne Simmons’ death came as a total surprise but she doesn’t believe it should put women off kickboxing.
Adrienne Simmons is thought to be the first woman kickboxer to die following a fight. She was knocked out in the final round of a clash in Florida last Sunday and died in hospital the following day.
