A wealthy builder pal of Iris Robinson has become involved in a million pound plus legal battle with a DUP dominated council.
Ken Campbell made headlines in early 2010 when it was revealed his Iris Robinson had secured a £25,000 loan from him to help her lover Kirk McCambley start up a cafe business.
There’s no suggestion Mr Campbell knew Mrs Robinson was having an affair with the young businessman.
Now Mr Campbell is back in the news because Ards Borough Council has launched a legal action against a property firm he owns claiming it has failed to complete a £1.66m deal to purchase a 1.7 acre plot of land in Newtownards.
Mr Campbell’s firm Inishmore Properties Ltd denies owing the council a penny and says the council owes it a “significant sum”.
Details of the legal dispute have emerged in an a report by the Local Government Auditor.
