Irish need to play it cool
The Republic’s President Mary McAleese said during the World Cup that “Ireland’s cricketers have put a smile on the face of Ireland”.
This week the International Cricket Council replaced it with a scowl. The world governing body’s decision to exclude Ireland and their fellow Associate members from even trying to qualify for the 2015 World Cup left our heroic players, able administrators and increasingly large number of admirers in a state of shock that has now turned to deep resentment and anger.
This morning members of Cricket Ireland will meet in Dundalk for an annual meeting that promised to be yet another celebration of the international team’s exploits in India only a matter of days ago.
