Led-on and let down
All of sport here knows the toyshop of life must take its place in the funding queue.
For all the health, fitness and feelgood benefits of our various sporting passions, we trail in as also-rans behind the real life needs of our hospitals, health service, schools and employment.
And we accept that.
Yet something jarred this week as sport reeled again under the twin blows of the Government axe falling on a whole range of desperately needed training and development facilities, coupled with the continuing fiasco of our non-involvement with the London 2012 Olympic dream.
