Marlborough man's IRA past
The cotors and lawyers who live on the leafy streets off Belfast's Lisburn Road have a new neighbour — notorious ex-paramilitary Bobby Tohill.
The prominent republican, who famously survived an IRA kidnap attempt in 2004, is staying in a comfortable rented apartment at Marlborough Court opposite the Chelsea Wine Bar.
It's a strange address for the former IRA and INLA member, who was first jailed in 1972 aged just 14.
The 52-year-old grew up in west Belfast’s Divis Flats complex — a housing project scarred by some of the worst violence of the Troubles and a world away from the Lisburn Road’s expensive boutiques and smart restaurants.
