A Belfast woman who became a Hollywood star after falling into acting by chance is to return home next month to shoot her first Northern Irish film.

Paula Malcomson, 42, who plays the mother of Oscar-winner Jennifer Lawrence in the blockbuster series The Hunger Games, has signed up to appear in a movie short, Cleansed, written by local man Paul Caddell.

Despite a prolific career on both stage and screen, which includes appearances in US hit shows Lost, ER, Deadwood and CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, it’s only the second role in which Paula will revert to her own accent.

The first was when she played Belfast woman Maureen Ashby in the award-winning serial drama Sons of Anarchy.

In a rare print interview, the Los Angeles-based actress said she had been keen to work back home for some time and that Caddell’s debut film script had provided her with the perfect role.
