Carl Frampton turns down big money deal from Channel 5 to go on Celebrity Big Brother
World boxing champ Carl Frampton turned down a chance to go onto Channel 5’s Celebrity Big Brother.
The IBF super-bantamweight champion has revealed he was offered a big money deal to go onto the reality show whose housemates this year include comedian Bobby Davro, Atomic Kitten singer Natasha Hamilton, porn star Jenna Jameson, TV presenter Gail Porter, The Bill actor Chris Ellison and Hollywood actor Daniel Baldwin.
Writing in his column in today’s Sunday Life he revealed: “I got an offer to be in the latest Celebrity Big Brother and Christine (Carl’s wife) wanted me to give it a go.
“But, I decided it wasn’t for me, even though the money would have been pretty good.
“It can get pretty heated in there and plenty of people end up saying things they don’t mean and ruin their reputations.”
However north Belfast boxer Carl, 28, hasn’t said no to all reality TV shows so we could see him taking on an even bigger challenge — Bushtucker trials.
“I would consider ‘I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here’ in the jungle. I’d be up for all the eating maggots and the various bits and pieces of crocodiles but the one reality programme Christine has told me I can’t do is Strictly Come Dancing because so many go on and have affairs!” he added.
The sportsman, who recently took America by storm when he successfully defended his title against Alejandro Gonzalez Jr, and his wife Christine recently put their Banbridge home on the market and are believed to be househunting in Crawfordsburn, Co Down.
Had dad-of-two Carl gone onto Celebrity Big Brother he would have immediately found himself caught up in controversy thanks to the antics of another housemate.
On Friday glamour model Tila Tequila was kicked out of the Celebrity Big Brother house after posting “totally unacceptable” views on social media, Channel 5 said.
The broadcaster said it had been unaware of the “views and attitudes Tila had expressed” before she entered the house on Thursday and her continued involvement in the show was “untenable”.
More than 500 people signed a petition calling for the US TV personality to be evicted after she allegedly posted a series of anti-Semitic remarks online.
Jewish leaders had called for the Playboy model, whose real name is Thien Thanh Thi Nguyen, to be removed from the house after she was accused of sharing a series of offensive posts online.
The controversial star had posted an image of herself standing in front of Auschwitz back in December 2013, holding a gun and wearing a Nazi armband and hat.
Tequila then continued to spark controversy with a blog titled Why I sympathise with Hitler Part 1, where she claimed Hitler wasn’t a “bad person” and said she was Adolf Hitler reincarnated.
The mother-of-one, who was born in Singapore to Vietnamese parents, is best known for her bisexual-themed dating show, A Shot At Love With Tila Tequila.
She previously hit the headlines when her diabetic heiress fiancee Casey Johnson died in 2010 and when she had a sex tape released without her consent the following year.
