Northern Ireland star Chris Brunt is an £8m target for Liverpool.
Under-fire Anfield boss Roy Hodgson has identified West Brom’s 25-year-old attacking midfielder from Belfast as the player who can help turn Liverpool’s season around.
Hodgson will make his move in the January transfer window, providing he is still in charge.
The Reds have made an appalling start to the season and are currently languishing in the Premier League relegation zone ahead of today’s match against Blackburn.
Brunt has been a star for the Premier League’s surprise package West Brom this season, now up to fourth after yesterday’s 2-1 win over Fulham.
A Liverpool source told Sunday Life last night: “West Brom will be reluctant to let Brunt go but Roy will have money to spend and he’s been impressed by Brunt and the influence he’s had on games this season.”
If Brunt does sign for Liverpool, he would become the first Northern Ireland player at Anfield since Jim Magilton in the late 80s — although the midfielder never actually played for the Reds first team.
