Golfing megastar Rory McIlroy and his new girlfriend Erica Stoll have paid a low-key visit to the Titanic Belfast tourist attraction.

The millionaire sportsman from Holywood shunned any VIP treatment to queue up to pay for his own tickets.

Scores of visitors couldn’t believe their eyes as the world’s number one golfer waited patiently in line with them.

“I thought he would have had the red carpet rolled out for him,” said one man.

But Rory clearly didn’t want any special favours. For celebrities whose representatives tell the centre in advance about their stars’ planned visits do get five star pampering.

But one woman who was at the popular centre said: “Rory looked quite content to do his own thing without any fuss and at the end of his tour he collected his souvenir like everyone else.”

Rory went public about his new girlfriend during the Irish open at Newcastle.

He and Erica, who works for the PGA, were photographed hand in hand at the tournament which was hosted by the golfer’s charity, the Rory Foundation.

Famous visitors to Titanic Belfast have included rock legend Rod Stewart, Sir James Galway, boyband JLS, Pixie Lott and Def Leppard singer Joe Elliott.

The centre has also attracted a host of stars filming the TV blockbuster Game of Thrones at the neighbouring Titanic Studios.

Rory McIlroy has been to Titanic Belfast before but only to attend a testimonial gala for Ulster rugby star Paddy Wallace.

And it is not the first time Rory has amazed people in Belfast with his non-pushy style. Last year he was spotted in the queue for some of his favourite fast food at Boojum in Chichester Street.
