McBusted plan epic gig at Belfast's Odyssey Arena
McBusted star Matt Willis says the supergroup have finally got to grips with their new line-up — half way through their tour!
So, by the time the Busted/McFly mash-up play the Odyssey on Wednesday night, Matt says their fans will see their most amazing show ever.
Matt says: “It wasn’t until the first gig of the tour that we really got to grips with what this band was. That took a few days to get how we were as a band. We are at the point where we all know our place in this band.
“We want to do something epic! Fans have been tweeting messages like ‘It was the most amazing night of my life!’, so we want to make sure we do our very best.”
Matt admitted that the amalgamation of Busted and McFly came as a surprise to all of them and they sold tickets for their gigs before they had even rehearsed as a group!
“We sold thousands of tickets to our gigs and then kind of looked at each other and realised we hadn’t even played together yet as a group!” Matt says. “It’s just a really cool thing that happened to us.
“As long as it makes sense and everyone is happy and wants to keep going, we’ll keep doing it.”
Meanwhile, Matt says that life on the road for the guys has changed significantly since they started over 11 years ago.
Back then he says it was like “one long stag do” but these days most of them are dads and lead a quieter life. So, they have no partying planned for after their Wednesday night show.
Matt has fought a well documented battle with addiction and has been in and out of rehab and no longer drinks.
“This time round it’s different. I don’t drink anymore so at least I will know the words and when to sing them. We are a very sober band.”
