Our boy McIlroy rors on Murray

Holywood hero Rory McIlroy is backing battling Andy Murray to make it a superb few weeks for British sport by winning his first Grand Slam at Wimbledon next Sunday.

Tennis fan McIlroy, who won the US Open at Congressional Golf Club last week, is a big friend of Wimbledon favourite Rafa Nadal.

But 22-year-old McIlroy will be cheering on his fellow Brit, who faces Richard Gasquet in the fourth round tomorrow, in the hope Murray will make it fourth time lucky in a Grand Slam final.

McIlroy says: “He’s come close before — three Grand Slam finals — and it would be just great to see him win one.

“Everyone should get behind Andy and hopefully he’ll win his first Grand Slam because I think it would be great for British tennis and British sport in general.”
