Celtic and Northern Ireland star Paddy McCourt scored in the most important match of his life yesterday when he tied the knot with his long-term love in their home city of Derry.
The Scottish Premier League and Northern Ireland midfielder married sweetheart Laura Hegarty at Our Lady of Lourdes chapel in Steelstown, cheered on by fans and famous footballing faces including Celtic team-mates Niall McGinn and Darren O’Dea, who was accompanied by model girlfriend Melissa Cheung. Fellow Northern Ireland International Rory Patterson, Milwall and Republic of Ireland goalkeeper David Forde and Derry City manager Stephen Kenny were also among the guests.
Nicknamed ‘The Derry Pele’ by fans because of his fancy footwork, 27-year-old Paddy and his new wife were joined at the ceremony by their four-year-old daughter Cora, who was the flower girl.
