Slam to the slaughter
Record-breaker Brian O’Driscoll and his Ireland team-mates last night crashed England’s Six Nations party by denying them the Grand Slam in devastating fashion.
England won the Championship but they failed to make it a clean sweep after Tommy Bowe and O’Driscoll ran in tries while Jonathan Sexton finished with the man-of-the-match award following a magnificent display at fly-half topped by a 14-point haul.
O’Driscoll, who is now the leading try scorer in Championship on 25, said: “We played a smart game, an intense game, and they couldn't live with us.”
Crestfallen England coach Martin Johnson admitted: “This is a scar and we’ll have to wear that scar.”
