TRAVEL GUIDE: Donegal

Donegal is always a popular destination with Northern Ireland’s holidaymakers. But it is also a big hit with travellers from much further afield. Shani James from California joined our Facebook group — Sunday Life Trips. Shani’s idea of ‘heaven on earth’ is none other than Rathmullan House — www.rathmullanhouse.com. “When life seems to be moving at 100 mph and I need a moment to catch up — Rathmullan House is the perfect retreat. “From the moment I enter the gates, there is a sense of calm and peace. “I'm not sure if it's the warm wood burning fireplaces, the sound of family and friends sharing stories throughout the day or the fact they have the friendliest and most helpful staff that make it so special probably it’s a combination of all the above. “The house sits at the edge of a beach where you can stroll and watch the sunset, take an exciting horse-back ride or, for something more relaxing, I suggest you take in a massage, it was one of the best I ever had! One of my most memorable experiences was a “Scone & Gooseberry Jam Making Session” with Kelan the chef. I've never been a baker, but during that session I was made into one — and of course one of the perks of baking....is you get to eat the sweets! “But the best was yet to come — an incredible dinner in the Weeping Elm. Hopefully my experience will intrigue others to take time out in my ‘Heaven on Earth’.”
