UDA leader in Higgy MBE bid
Top loyalist Jackie McDonald is leading a campaign to get Alex Higgins an MBE — before the shrivelled snooker legend dies.
The UDA commander kicked off the bid last week and has vowed to write to Stormont Sports Minister Nelson McCausland to ask for support.
South Belfast ‘brigadier’ Jackie said cancer-ravaged Higgins deserved the award because he was an Ulster sports icon as important as George Best.
After shaking skeletal Higgins’ hand to launch the campaign, Jackie declared: “Higgy revolutionised snooker and he deserves an MBE."
