Worthy has perfect fix
Nigel Worthington believes Northern Ireland’s fixture schedule could prove to be the masterstroke which will lead to Euro 2012 qualification — but first they have to overcome Serbia.
Boss Worthy, at the scheduling meeting last year, had a vision of how he wanted Northern Ireland’s fixtures to pan out.
Worthy said: “I always felt that Italy at home early on would be a plus and getting the Faroe Islands as close to a back-to-back situation as possible in the middle of the group was also high on my list.
“After that, I wanted Italy away as the final game because they were, rightly, favourites for the group and I was mindful by the time the last game came around, they could have already qualified."
