Belfast firm unveils Titanic tour app
Belfast digital tourism company My Tour Talk has devised an app to allow ex-pats to enjoy the centenary Titanic celebrations from the comfort of their own home.
The Titanic in Belfast mobile phone tour starts at the Donegall Quay then travels past the Odyssey and W5, to the SS Nomadic & The Hamilton Graving Dock, Titanic Belfast, The Slipways, the H&W cranes, The Paint hall, The White Star Line and ending at the Thompson Pump House & Dry Dock - from where the Titanic set sail.
The app also provides an exclusive interview with Jonny Andrews, who is the great nephew of the ship’s chief designer Thomas Andrews, and the then Chairman of Harland and Wolff, William Pirrie.
This detailed voice recording has been specifically created for the app and hears Mr Andrews tell anecdotal stories about Thomas Andrews’s life and career spent in Northern Ireland from schooling at RBAI to the family business in Comber to his career in the shipyard – where he worked hard to beat off 100 other colleagues to be the chief designer on the Titanic in 1912.
Jamie Hanna of My Tour Talk said: "We have already had a great response from Northern Ireland users since the app went live this week because of Titanic fever sweeping the nation but also because of the directory which highlights the best Belfast has to offer.
"In her day Titanic used cutting edge technology to create the most ambitious feats of engineering ever undertaken, so we feel it fitting that we are able to use our award winning modern technology to help the Titanic legacy live on throughout the world."
The interactive free directory included in the tour provides comprehensive listings in eight categories; Shopping, Attractions, Nightlife, Transport, Food & Drink, Events, Activities and Accommodation.
