Facebook is adding a "dislike" button to its social network, founder Mark Zuckerberg has revealed.

"I think people have asked about the dislike button for many years. Today is a special day because today is the day I can say we’re working on it and shipping it," Zuckerberg said during a Q&A session at Facebook’s headquarters."

However the Facebook CEO said he didn't want the feature to allow people to  'downvote' people's posts.

"That doesn't seem like the kind of community that we want to create: You don't want to go through the process of sharing some moment that was important to you in your day and have someone 'downvote' it.

"What [users] really want is the ability to express empathy. Not every moment is a good moment."
