When Google announced yesterday that it was changing its name to “Alphabet” one man was hit with a raft of notifications.

Chris Andrikanich, who earned the nickname “Alphabet” as a university student, registered the @alphabet handle on Twitter in 2007.

Little did he know that one of the world’s most powerful tech companies would also adopt the name.

Mr Andrikanich might be right to expect a call from Google’s new umbrella parent in the near future.

“It’s crazy. It’s nerve-racking. It’s entirely unbelievable,” Andrikanich told BuzzFeed News.

Andrikanich describes himself as “Dad. Husband. Self-proclaimed geek who fires off regular gibberish, gobblety-gook about sports, tech, CLE, and whatever...” on his Twitter bio.

When Google’s news was announced, Andrikanich was working at his job at a small local-interest book publisher when he saw the tweets start pouring in.

“I’m just going about my day and picking up my daughter and I’m getting contacted by media and tweets are going crazy. It’s surreal,” he told Buzzfeed News.

“They were coming one after another,” he said.
